Trying to set up Yahoo e-mail account in Window live Mail?

2nd account, incoming/outgoing details from Yahoo site. Everything seems to be OK but failing on Account ID/password. Can get direct using same info without problem - what I am I doing wrong?

In order to use a separate email program, such as Outlook, Outlook Express, or Thunderbird, with Yahoo Mail you need to pay for Yahoo Mail Plus. It is also required when you try to transfer the mail using smtp or pop3 to another online email. When you do you can set the servers as follows:

Incoming (pop3) - pop.mail.yahoo.com

Outgoing (smtp) - smtp.mail.yahoo.com.

As an alternative there is an add on called YPOPS that you can download and try.

To setup Windows Live Mail with YPOPs!:

1. Click the SHOW MENU (ALT+M) button at the top right of the WLM window then click on SHOW ALL MENUS. You should now see FILE, EDIT, VIEW, TOOLS, ACTIONS, and HELP at the top of the WLM window.

2. Click TOOLS %26gt; ACCOUNTS. Click the ADD button.

3. Select E-MAIL ACCOUNT then click NEXT.

4. Enter your Yahoo! e-mail address, password, and your name as you would like for it to appear to people you send e-mail to. Check the box in front of "Manually configure server settings for e-mail account." Click NEXT.

5. Make sure to use lower case letters for your username. The username is just the username, not the full Yahoo! e-mail address. The INCOMING and OUTGOING servers are both "127.0.0.1" (no quotes). Check the box in front of "My outgoing server requires authentication". Click NEXT then click FINISH.

6. With the ACCOUNTS window still open, select your Yahoo! e-mail account and click PROPERTIES. Click the ADVANCED tab. Move the SERVER TIMEOUTS slider all the way to the right so the server timeout becomes 5 minutes.

7. Optionally, you may or may not want to keep e-mails on Yahoo! If you DO NOT WANT to keep e-mails on Yahoo!, uncheck the box in front of "Leave a copy of messages on server". Click APPLY then click OK.

8. Click CLOSE on the ACCOUNTS window to close it.

If you want to use Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird or other third party email clients to view your email you have 2 options.

if you didn't save it, there is likely not to be any way to recover it.

mail is not kept in any cache as you type it, so it can't be reloaded. no save, no return.

Hotmail with outlookk/outlook express

Much like Yahoo, hotmail does not allow access via a pop3 account.

There is a way around this, just like with Yahoo.

First you will need to download and install a program called FREEPOPS.

Yes you can, it's a mail program. Like the one on OS X or Outlook. You can also link multiple accounts if you wish.

You can link Hotmail accounts, just add that to your email accounts. However, for Yahoo accounts, you need to have Premium services. It does not work on free accounts. Google Mail offers the same service for free.

I am using Verizon mail and Windows Vista. When I click "attach" and "browse" comes up, I enter file name and it alerts that file is empty - it is not empty - there are 3 photos in it.. Also, if I enter "desk top" in the browse box, the desk top does not open.

If the file was send to you via attachment, you would have to open that attachment and save it to anywhere you please.

After saving it(If it's you didn't already save it in the Music folder), go find where you saved it, right click it, click "cut", and then click the icon at the bottom left of the shiny bar at the bottom of the screen(The Windows flag) and open up at the right "Music".

I did not understand, whether your question was pertaining to your e-mail ID or the e-mail program.

If its e-mail ID, there is no difference.

But the MSN Hotmail doesnot exist anymore. You might have seen the message "MSN? Hotmail? is changing... to Windows Live? Hotmail?" in the sign-in page. Now it is called Windows Live? Hotmail. It is MSN Hotmail integrated with Windows Live.

If your question is regarding the e-mail program, then you have two options:

Full version of Windows Live Hotmail; and,

the Classic version of Windows Live Hotmail(the previous hotmail version).

You can change back to "Classic version of Windows Live Hotmail" by clicking the "Try the classic version." link in your mail home page.

It depends on the test you take. You may take the mailhandler test, or the clerk/carrier test. Due to automation many clerk positions are being eliminated.

OE won't send or receive until you properly set it up.

This is a common problem and usually it's quite simple to fix. You need to change your preferences to plain text formatting instead of HTML. From a Yahoo! Mail page click the "Options" link at top right of the page, then click "General Preferences". Scroll down to the "Composing E-mails" category and select "Compose messages as plain text" then Save your changes. This will resolve the issue in most cases.

Also, try switching back to HTML formatting once a week or so just to see if it'll work again for you

You can just copy and paste the link (the url) to the website into the email.

I'm assuming that since your friend can recieve the email, he has an internet connection. So, in this case, copying the link will do.

In the rare occurance that the website you want to show your friend is something that doesn't work with a copy/paste of the address (such as ASPs (don't worry about the definition if you don't know what I'm talking about)), you can just save the webpage by going to File %26gt; Save, Zip it, and send it as an attachment -- or -- copy and paste the whole webpage, and paste it into the email.

First and Foremost - have you looked at Yahoo's email? It's very good - and sound like it will do what you want. Plus, the Beta (not yet fully released - but soon - I HOPE!) is looking like it will blow all other web based emails (Hotmail, Gmail) out of the water!!! I can't wait! :)

Second - try Thunderbird. (http://www.mozilla.com/thunderbird)

It's supposed to be an excellent email program - and offers a TON of add-ons that will help you make it even more powerful. Just know that it is a program in flux. It's what is called "Open-Source" meaning the code for it is open, and everyone helps build it and work with it. This is a good thing, but also means a program like that will operate like a beta program at times because it needs to be "tweaked" yet.

I also have a friend who likes "The Bat." I know nothing about it - other than he LOVES it and swears by it. Do a Yahoo search on "The Bat Email" and you'll find it. :)

It is spam. A sender's email address is similar to the return address on an envelope you receive in the mail. And just like the return address on an envelope, a person can send an email that looks like it came from anywhere. Don't be too quick to believe that the problem lies with your computer. Beta is very unstable right now, which of course is why it is called beta--it's still in the development and testing phase. And, boy, does it need a lot of work! Until Yahoo has worked out the bugs, I'd recommend staying with the old version for a while longer.

The only thing I think I could have done was download emoticons for Microsoft Outlook. They also work in other e-mail programs like Yahoo. But, I downloaded Firefox and that didn't help. What exactly happens when you try to log into Yahoo Mail Beta? What error messages do you see and how often do they come up? Can you get to your Inbox at all? You may want to clear your History, Cache, and Cookies (again) from BOTH IE 7 and Firefox. If that doesn't work, try switching back to original Yahoo Mail I would say.

If neither one of those options work, and you have cleaned out your History, Temp Internet Files, cookies, and Cache from BOTH IE and Firefox, the next thing that I would do would be to close all Windows. Than wait several seconds and go to Start/Run and type in the word "temp" (No quotes) in the Run box. Go to that Temp folder that opens. Select Edit, Select All and Press Delete. Answer Yes to send all the files to the Recycle Bin.

Next go to My Computer, and Right Click on Drive C. Select "Disk Cleanup". You can leave the options as they are in that screen, but select Disk Clean up and answer Yes to the prompt. Disk Clean up will tell you how much space you can save by cleaning up and deleting unneeded files on your system. Answer Yes to perform the actions. After Disk Clean up is done, wait several seconds and close out of that Window.

Close all Other Windows and now empty your Recycle Bin. Wait several seconds and reboot your computer. Can you get into Yahoo Mail, (Either classic version or the new version now?)

I would start with the website where you got the POP server and see if they have any trouble shooting advice for not being able to send mail. While there double check your configuration of Outlook.

Yahoo is still having some problems at the moment. Suggested cures range from Update Adobe Flash Player and Javascript to clear IE7 cache, cookies, and browsing history. Different things seem to work for different people. No, music files are much to big to send through email without compressing the file. You would need something more like an FTP server or file shareing program to do that.

If you send an email with a picture in it, then no, it should only send the email and embedded image. If that's not what you mean try sending an email to yourself, either you'll notice it takes pathetically long to send (If it is trying to send all your photos), or when you receive the email it will only have the photo you selected attached to it.

Not sure what you mean, but if you are talking about when you click on an email address in some application and you want that to pop up Yahoo email and start composing, then you can't do that with just the web interface. Get Thunderbird and use that as your interface to Yahoo Mail.

The two answers miss the obvious point here: Web sites are written to BROWSERS, not OS's.

I'm not actually aware of *any* other site on the Internet (including Windows Live Mail and Gmail) that discriminates against IE6 being run on one OS versus another.

It's absurd and lazy of Yahoo, and I've yet to hear a technical justification of why it was necessary. Even Oddpost, which Yahoo Mail Beta was built upon, supports Win98.

If you are trying to get to your Yahoo Beta Mail with any browser and getting a "Page Not Displayed" or similar message or errors, unfortunately there is not a simple solution.

A month ago or so I was experiencing similar problems. I tried every answer people had posted and nothing worked. I had cleared the cache and history, booted into SafeMode with networking to clear all temp files and still couldn't fix the problem.

Because Yahoo Mail Beta is beta software (almost but not quite ready for prime time) they help very little with it. Beta software is basically in testing mode. I'm sure Yahoo is using Answers to guage how well the software is working. Many people post their issues here so they get a good bug report of the software. But, since it is Beta, they have no solutions. They will simply try to fix these bugs when Beta goes into production for everyone.

With all of that said, last month I finally had a chance to switch back to the original version and all is fine now. You cannot change back to the original w/o accessing beta first. I had to do it late at night when Beta was fully working for me at home to find the link to switch back. The link is there close to your user name AFTER you successfully login to your Beta account.

There is a site you can access to check your Beta mail if you keep getting Page Not Displayed or a blank screen. It is basically text only, but at least you can check your mail. Here is the link: http://wap.oa.yahoo.com

I had the same problem. I'm not sure why this worked but it did. I disabled javascript and reloaded the page. Then I got a message that told me I needed to have javascript enabled to use Yahoo. So I enabled javascript and reloaded the page again. The dialog box then disappeared. I hope this helps.

You need to find the 'attach' button when you are in the 'compose email' screen. Then search your documents for the CV file, select 'attach', and the email will now have a copy of the CV which you can send. The text will not appear in the email, the email will just send the file.

First of all, Mary, you need to save the document that you've produced. (Save it somewhere that will be easy for you to locate again ... maybe in C:\Documents and Settings\ %26lt;your name%26gt; \My Documents or on your desktop.)

Then you need to write your email and click on Attach Files. You then browse to where you saved your document and click on it. (It'll take a while for your email programme [program, if you're American] to add the file.

That's it. You simply click on Send.

You can have multiple windows open by opening both windows,then a blank spot on the task bar right click and choose either tile windows vertically or horizontally. The windows will be slightly smaller, so you may have to slide the bars to see parts of the page you want, but they can both be open at the same time.

If you are referencing the built in Windows Messenger as opposed to MSN Messenger or Windows Live Messenger, go to Tools, Options, Preferences and untick the box beside "Run Windows Messenger when Windows starts". Click OK.

Then go into your Outlook Express, go to Tools, Options, General and untick :Automatically log into Windows Messenger. Click Apply, then click OK.

You may need to reboot for the settings to stick

If you will look at the message on the little bar on the bottom of your screen, the text states "Cannot find server."

This message is typically reserved for instances in which the remote server your computer is *calling* is down, either for basic maintenance or due to technical problems.

I suspect that the problem with Yahoo has much to do with this present site, which they have drawn people to with extensive promotion, without appearing to have the organization, hardware, software, and staffing support to effectively accommodate at this time.

Yahoo! Stated that there is an internal system server error which is periodically occuring. This occured from last night actually. I was able to check my mail this morning, but that was after logging in 5 times. One trick you can try is to log into Yahoo! Mail Canada, UK/Ireland, or India (or somewhere that speaks english) to access mail - since they use a networked but seperate server. Let us know if you are having luck. For messenger, give it couple more minutes, or log into Web Messenger @ http://messenger.yahoo.com/.

it is possible that yahoo servers are not available due to some technological error, but it could also be your computer, i would suggest wait a while then try again or if you are in a hurry, try a different method, like search for yahoo mail with google or go to yahoo music and try to login on.

It seems this is all part of the service. Your 'log in' stays intact though, which is good. But, like you say, every now and then you will have to clear away some of the old ones.

Most processors today can handle multiple windows opening, so Yahoo! have made it automatic.

Typical 419 scam. They collect your data and will at some point require you to pay for expenses, insurance and so on. IF you pay there'll be "unexpected extra expenses." Should you try to come after them and come close they'll try to kill you.

This seems to be a recurring problem with Yahoo Mail Beta. I too have experienced this several times.

Sometimes, I can clear all browser cache and Yahoo cookies files and the problem goes away. Other times that does not work.

I also fixed the problem before by upgrading my Java version.

Unfortunately there is not an easy, cut and dried solution to the problem. Most everyone here will tell you to simply clear browser cache and history files and reboot. Honestly, that does work sometimes, but not every time.

You might also check the help files for freezing browser windows and other error messages here...

IE7 has a Page menu that does contain a Send Page by E-mail command. This command launches your default email application. Also ensure your computer is set to the correct time and date and then ensure all running programmes are closed. restart your computer and try again.
